Beach Bird Littles ~ A new collection of beach bird miniature giclées!

My fascination with little beach birds, like sanderlings and plovers, was instantaneous once I became a “birder”. Up until that point I had used my camera and zoom lens for chasing wooden schooners out on the open waters. Once birding became a passion I found myself chasing the little beach birds up and down the beach trying to get pictures of them in focus!

They zigged and zagged, paused, sprinted, and flew away only to fly back and land 50 yards away. Every time we went to the beach I became obsessed with following their every movements. It took me quite awhile to find the right settings on my camera because they are so fast!

At one point a beachgoer, after watching me in action, stopped me to ask if I worked for National Geographic! I laughed and explained that I am actually a painter and that I work from my own photographs.

Now we live near three beaches, Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, and Folly Beach. Not to mention Beachwalker near Kiawah. I have hundreds if not thousands of photographs of sanderlings, plovers and other beach birds, many of them in focus. :)

Up until this point we haven’t produced any reproductions of these little guys. Most of my “beach bird” paintings have sold.

Recently we had a special request by a collector of my work to produce miniature giclées (digital reproduction prints) of some of my beach bird paintings. As soon as we saw them we loved the size and the quality, and the fact that they could be hung on a wall without a frame or stand alone on a shelf.

We are excited to announce that we now have a new collection on our website called Beach Bird Littles, featuring four of my most popular little beach bird paintings. How small are they? They range in size from 5”x7” to 6”x7”, and 7”x7”.

Introducing the fearsome foursome!

If you love the beach and want to have a little reminder these little giclées don’t take up much wall space. They are now available on our website under Reproductions - Beach Bird Littles.

Thank you for reading my journal and for your interest in my art. I have a feeling I will be painting more Littles in the near future! I’ve got a Semi-palmated Plover in mind who is dying to become a member of the club! :)

I would love to hear from you if you’d like to leave a comment down below!
