Snowy’s Paradise ~ #4 in the Yellow Foot Collection

The juvenile Snowy Egret in my painting, Snowy’s Paradise, is enjoying this stage of his young life. He has survived all of the perils of the nesting period and is now able to fly and be free. He was fortunate to be raised in Isle of Palms, SC, and his daily existence finds him surrounded by palmetto plants and blooming bushes. Water and food are everywhere. Best of all his greenish/yellow feet have started to turn a strong yellow, indicating his evolution toward maturity! Life is good.

The egret has just landed and is stretching his neck up and shaking out his feathers. He is taking it all in, scouting out the area. Other Snowy Egrets share this tropical-like paradise and vie for the best hangouts. The lower palmetto fronds help provide some dense foliage for cover, while the upper leaves divide, providing a window to the outside world.

Snowy’s Paradise is #4 out of 10 in my Yellow Foot Collection. Each painting is created from one of my personal birding experiences. This particular bird happened to pose for me, surrounded by interesting greenery. Many artists find natural greens intimidating to paint. I looked at it as a challenge in this painting. I’m enjoying mixing my greens and studying the way light affects or changes greens.

None of the greens are from the tube, but rather created from mixtures of various blues, yellows, ochres, sienna, reds, ivory black and whites. The bird is the central focus, but I wanted the background to be interesting too, with the foliage leading one’s eye around the canvas.

The Yellow Foot Collection is being painted with collectors in mind. Normally, my paintings are priced much higher, but I’m pricing this collection with the hope that it will allow more people to be able to afford them, and for serious collectors to opt for multiple works.  It is a limited edition of ten original oil paintings, so the special offer will be on this specific collection only.

Thank you to all of you for reading my journal and for your interest in my art. It is a blessing to be able to do what I love doing every day, painting!

One of the joys of being an artist is having the freedom to follow my passion….
